Reflection at Celebration of Learning
At Saturday's Celebration of Learning Melissa Johansen and Jaime Fialek were honored for their reflection essays. These essays were selected from among those who reflected on how their project impacted their understanding of vocation. Ms. Johansen, who studied mental health services for Latinos, stated, "While this project did not provide me with any clear answers on what exactly I am called to do, it certainly helped strengthen my sense of who I am called to be. I am a person who deeply cares about the well being of all people and therefore I am concerned about injustices that exist in the world." Ms. Fialek, whose investigation of the literature and art of Martinique, a Francophone island in the Caribbean, led her to apply and be accepted for Teach for America said, "My research, along with my newfound calling, urged me not only to understand but to confront issues of race in America. I felt personally fulfilled, and yet not satisfied. More than anything, my research was a starting point, a vital step for me before jumping into an inner city classroom." These were just some of the great insights our students came to when they took a moment to reflect on their experiences.

11:30 AM - 1:30 PM
After recent reflection workshops it seems many of us have some desire to talk about reflection and how we can do it with our students, using each other as resources. The CVR invites you to join our Reflection Roundtable, reserved in the Wilson Center on Fridays. Provide your own lunch, but enjoy dessert on the CVR. Join this open forum as your schedule permits.
